La Lumiere's commitment to preparing students for college has resulted in a 100% college placement record.

The College Counseling office educates La Lumiere students in the process of decision-making with the goal of helping students find colleges where they will be challenged, where they will be happy, and where they will succeed. We attempt to do this with as little stress and pressure on students as possible.

In helping students find appropriate colleges, we focus on developing a match between the student and the colleges. We want students to find the best colleges for them individually. To accomplish these goals, we provide each student with the one-to-one assistance of the College Counselor as well as weekly small-group meetings on focused topics beginning in the second semester of junior year. While formal work with students begins during the junior year, all students in all grades have access to the College Counselor.

The College Counselor, along with the Academic Dean, helps students plan a curriculum appropriate to their ability that prepares them for the rigors of college. Students also receive test-taking advice, and we provide boarding students with transportation to standardized test sites. For students applying to colleges offering interviews, we offer interview technique advice and practice. The College Counselor maintains a resource library open to all students containing information about the college process, individual colleges, and standardized test preparation. In addition, all families have internet access to Family Connection to help them plan and research.

The college counseling office welcomes representatives from campuses throughout the country during both fall and spring semesters (Please see the link to the right for the current schedule). In addition, college counselors also serve as ambassadors to college admission offices nationwide through visits and phone calls, thereby promoting an understanding of the value and unique nature of a La Lumiere education.
