The 2006-2007 school year has started off with lots of excitement. The first month of classes is under way, students have hit the books, and teachers have reunited themselves once again with the white boards and classrooms.

This school year is not just another ordinary year at La Lumiere; there have been many changes made to our school this year that students and faculty are excited about.

La Lumiere is happy to have so many new faces this year; we have new students, new teachers, and even new classes. The school has gone from 130 students to over 150 and has reached capacity. We have many new people to welcome into our La Lumiere community this year.

The faculty has switched the schedule up a bit.  They have made it so there are two Lunch periods, also known as E Lunch and F Lunch to students and teachers; as a result there are smaller lines, and there is more space to eat.  They have also changed the schedule so that students have each of their classes every day.  There is also a three-minute passing period before each class and a bell to start class, giving all students more time to get to class.  For the first couple of weeks not only did the new students have to learn a new schedule but the experienced returning students did also.  The length of an average La Lumiere school day has changed also, varying between 2:30 and 3:00.

Our Academic Hold System has changed also, so listen up students!  In previous years, students kept receiving holds for every missed assignment, and they added up fast. This year, the academic dean has made it impossible to have so many holds. Students can only get one hold per class per week, and they must turn their homework in for that particular class by the end of the hold.

La Lumiere’s traditional Wednesday activities have improved this year also.  We have a number of new activities: street law, guitar, ultimate Frisbee, camping, canoeing, paintball, comics, fishing, outdoor adventures, and “No Boys Allowed.”

Our campus is evolving too.  La Lumiere has changed the location of some of its classrooms, and has added more computers to the library and soon in the Moore House.   We students know that these changes are signs of progress.  It is exciting to watch our school transform and grow.
